Students will learn how to prepare digital images, mix ink, transfer photographic imagery onto clay surfaces, and incorporate image-based storytelling into ceramic work.Through demonstrations and hands-on projects, participants will explore various transfer methods, surface treatments, glazing considerations, and firing processes. The course encourages students to develop personal narratives through imagery while gaining technical skills for creating unique ceramic surfaces.By the end of the course, students will complete a series of image-based ceramic pieces and gain the knowledge needed to continue incorporating photographic processes into their own artistic practice.Students will learn:• Image preparation and editing for transfer• Photographic transfer techniques on clay• Surface design and composition• Ink mixing• Glazing and firing considerations• Troubleshooting common transfer issues• Developing personal concepts through ceramic imageryRecommended experience: Beginner clay experience preferred. Intermediate Wheel Throwing Age: 16+ Day: Tuesday Dates: Sept 8 – Oct 13 Time: 6:00PM – 8:00PM Location: Puckett Pottery House Room: Wheel Room Instructor: Jon Lang Description: This intermediate wheel throwing ceramics class is designed for students who are comfortable centering clay and creating basic forms such as bowls and cylinders. Building on foundational skills, students will refine their technique while exploring more complex wheel-thrown forms and decorative approaches.Students will focus on improving consistency, control, and craftsmanship through projects that may include larger vessels, matching sets, plates, pitchers, and lidded forms. Instruction will cover advanced trimming, altering forms, assembling multipart pieces, and attaching handles and spouts.The course will also introduce surface decoration techniques such as carving, texture, slip application, and glazing considerations. Emphasis is placed on developing strong functional forms, understanding proportion and design, and strengthening problem-solving skills in the studio.By the end of the class, students will have expanded their technical abilities, increased confidence at the wheel, and completed a variety of finished ceramic pieces while continuing to develop their own creative style. Perspective 101: A Complete Drawing Foundation Age: 17+ Day: Thursday Dates: Oct 29 – Dec 11 Time: 10:30AM – 1:00PM Location: Cain Center for the Arts – Main Campus Room: Classroom 115 Instructor: Lisa Albinus Description: You know that feeling when a drawing just won’t cooperate — when something is clearly wrong but you cannot put your finger on it? Nine times out of ten, perspective is what’s missing. And here is the thing — perspective is not as intimidating as it sounds. Once it clicks, it genuinely changes the way you see everything around you, and your drawings will never be the same.Over six weeks we will work through one-point, two-point, and three-point perspective and then put those skills to work on the subjects that make it real — spheres, arches, cast shadows, and more. This course is structured and thorough, but it is also warm, encouraging, and completely accessible no matter where you are starting from. Instruction proceeds to explore the stab-binding process hands-on, creating and exploring how to make a book of your very own. Christine will guide you through the process in a step-by-step fashion, then you can create your own flip animation if desired, use your book for sketching, or jotting notes for school or work. Create a beautiful work of art for your home and learn how to paint the beautiful Earth we live on simultaneously. Christine will guide you on structuring your horizon line using the principle of thirds, definition of the sky using atmospheric perspective, and will then move on to the middle and foregrounds of the landscape painting to create depth and interest with a focus on the beauty of nature that surrounds us. The Art of Abstract Painting Age: 17+ Day: Tuesday Dates: Oct 27 – Dec 8 Time: 2:00PM – 4:00PM Location: Cain Center for the Arts – Main Campus Room: Classroom 115 Instructor: Kathy Murray Description: Have you ever wished your paintings could be looser and more energetic? In this class we will explore different methods and techniques to create abstract paintings. How to look at something real like a still life or landscape and make it abstract by really changing the shapes, lines, colors and other things that you see. You can choose how much abstraction you want in your pieces. Use multiple layers to create richness and depth. Create using your choice of many types of media, different brush sizes, textures, patterns, acrylic paints, tools, stamps, stencils, collage papers, pencils, art crayons, etc. Some basic art “rules” will be discussed and discarded at your discretion. For example, color schemes, creating depth, design of value plans, passage of how your eye moves through a painting, having a focal point.
