Color Theory for Colored Pencil Artists
Color Theory for Colored Pencil Artists Age: 17+ Day: Thursday Dates: Sept 10 – Oct 15 Time: 10:30AM – 1:00PM Location: Cain Center for the Arts – Main Campus Room: Classroom 115 Instructor: Lisa Albinus Description: Have you ever looked at your colored pencil collection and wondered why some colors mix beautifully while others turn muddy? Or picked up a pencil that seemed perfect for a shadow and watched it go completely wrong on the paper? This class is the answer to those questions.Over six weeks, we’ll build a real working knowledge of color — the kind that changes how you draw permanently. We start by doing something most colored pencil artists never do: we inventory and swatch every pencil we own. Whatever brand you have, whatever size your collection, we map it out and make it yours. From there we move into color theory — hue, value, and intensity — with hands-on exercises that show you exactly how your specific pencils behave together. Every week ends with a short applied project so new knowledge goes straight onto paper before you leave. You’ll walk away knowing your pencils the way a musician knows their instrument. No guessing, no frustration — just confidence and a color strategy you can use on anything you draw.Bring whatever pencils you own – we will map them out together!
