This will be a project-based class with ideas and examples that will challenge and build your skills. Christmas Ornaments Workshop

In the workshop we will demonstrate how to make a variety of Christmas trees and ornaments. Would ask that each participant donate at least one ornament to the Cain Center/charitable donation or for display at the Cain Center. Students are encouraged to bring a bag lunch for the lunch break. Watercolor and Composition

Watercolor and CompositionCain Center for the Arts: Classroom 115Nov. 2 – Dec. 14Price: $165.00    Thursdays, 1:30pm – 3:30pm   Instructor: Gail Kolenda  The student will learn about colors, papers and brushes. Each week we will build upon the lessons moving from color chart, to mixing, to techniques, to creating your first watercolor picture. I will be teaching the basic washes, glazing, watercolor “tricks”, and use of shadows. Composition will be introduced. At the end of each class the student will have at least one, if not more, projects to take home. This class is for anyone who is interested in learning how to paint with watercolor. It is designed for people who have never picked up a watercolor brush, for people who are returning to watercolor after many years away, or people interested in finding out if they want to be a watercolor artist. ***Cornelius Residents will use RESCODE for Cornelius resident price.*** 

Totem Building

Totem BuildingCornelius Art Center – Ceramic StudioOct. 31st – Dec. 12thPrice: $175.00    Tuesdays, 10am – 12:30pm   Instructor: Penny Overcash  This six week class will cover the in’s and outs of making totems for inside and outside. Students will be asked to follow a theme of their choosing and to imagine different pieces for the totems. We will wash, underglaze and glaze the pieces and arrange them on steel or galvanized rods and give you numerous ways to set them up for display inside or in the garden. Students will need to purchase rods or ask instructor to supply them at cost. Totems are a great way to express your creativity and so fun for the garden or the home. Themed projects such as animals, birds, a cultural display, flowers, tubes etc can all be expressed through a beautiful totem. This class is all about fun! Oil Painting Basics

Oil Painting BasicsCornelius Arts CenterSept. 11th – Oct. 16th  Price: $165.00.  Mondays, 6:30pm-8pm   Instructor: Kathy Murray Learn basic techniques in oil painting like strong composition, value, color harmony, a variety of brushstroke techniques, passage and focal point. Students will be led through the creation of 3 paintings over 6 classes including step by step teaching demonstration by the instructor. No painting experience is needed.
