Camp Name: Discover the Japanese Art of Painting with Ink on Water Age: 7-12 Instructor: Maria Roca Price: $150.00 In this camp participants will learn the magical art of using ink on water to create amazingly colorful designs on paper. Suminagashi is a Japanese paper marbling technique. Literally, the word means “ink floating.” Swirling patterns can be created by dropping ink on the surface of water and then placing paper on top to lift the ink. Youth Series: Painting Like the Masters: Vincent Van Gogh “Starry Night”
Ages: 8-12Time: 10AM – 1:30PMDate: Feb. 17, 2024Location: Cain Center for the Arts, Classroom 115In this 3 ½ hour workshop children will learn about the painting technique used by Van Gogh that made “Starry Night” one of the most unique and famous works of art. Van Gogh painted 21 versions of “Starry Night”. Children will learn about the use of vibrant colors, brush strokes, and layering of paint and will recreate this masterpiece using acrylic paint on canvas board. No prior experience is necessary since children will work at their appropriate level of abilities. Workshop Structure: Introduction to Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and discussion of his use of color and brush strokes: Video presentation (15 minutes) Pencil sketch on canvas.(30 minutes) Painting. Warhol’s work is characterized by its intense and vivid colors. He was one of the leaders of the pop art movement that made use of images and symbols from popular products to describe the identity of American culture. Children will work with acrylic paint on canvas boards. No prior experience is necessary since children will work at their appropriate level of abilities.
