Cornelius Arts Center Ceramic Studio Saturday, October 26, 2024 1PM – 3PM The Caviness Brothers, Brad and Bryan will be teaching a workshop on one of their methods of ceramics.  This workshop will introduce the concept of utilizing plastic molds to elevate and distinguish ceramic artwork.   Workshop Breakdown: The Caviness Brothers will have several examples of plaster molds for class use, as students are walked through the process of mold manipulation.  There will be single open molds and complicated 2–4-piece molds for varying jars, and statues. The instructors will demonstrate by pressing clay into some molds and slip cast into others with clay. This shows different uses for plaster molds and each effect created when used with clay. Ceramic Pumpkin Workshop

Cornelius Arts Center Ceramic Studio Saturday, September 28, 2024 10AM – 1PM     Join us for a ceramic pumpkin hand-building workshop at the Cain Center for the Arts where you can get your hands dirty and unleash your creativity! In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create your very own ceramic pumpkin from scratch. No prior experience is necessary – our instructor will guide you every step of the way. Whether you’re looking to add a festive touch to your home décor or simply want to try something new, this workshop is perfect for anyone wants to work in clay. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to make a unique piece of art that you can proudly display in your home! What’s Included: Clay, use of the required tools, step-by-step instruction and a choice of glazes for final firing. When will my piece be ready? The clay needs to dry out slowly before being bisque fired, then needs to be glazed and finally glaze fired! You will be notified when your piece is ready to pick up. Ballroom Dance Workshop

“Come learn ballroom social dance in a relaxed and fun environment!! In this 4-week workshop we will learn the basics of the Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha Cha, Merenge’ and more! Mixed Media: Texture Focused

Mixed Media: Texture FocusedCain Center : Rm 115. July 22 – August 19, 2024Price: $165.00    Mondays, 6pm – 8pm   In this class we will create textured mixed media pieces using any or all of the following that you choose: acrylic paint, collage, pencils, oil pastels, oil paint, paper, or even fabric. Many different mark making tools can be used like brushes, palet knives, stamps, stencils etc. You can work on canvas, heavy paper or cradled wood panel, Many master painters like Matisse, Bearden and Picasso used collage with paint so why not try it? We will first create collage papers with acrylic paint on various papers, then create mixed media pieces by combining paint with the collage papers. In each class will be a short lesson/demo and then the teacher will assist students with their projects. Basic art principles like composition, value, color, etc will be reviewed as needed as to to how they relate to students’ pieces.  The teacher will assist each student with their choice of media, and everyone will have their own 6×3’ table and large easel.  It will be so fun!   Beginners or advanced students are welcome!   Instructor: Kathy Murray   ***Cornelius Residents will use RESCODE for Cornelius resident price.***

Each week we will delve into new techniques that will develop, enhance and expand one’s skills.
