Description: Learn the basics of plaster mold making and slip casting in this introductory class. Students will learn how to create a one or two part mold from their choice of a found object or their own forms created from clay. This class will introduce the steps to prepare forms for mold making, how to safely mix and pour plaster, and the process of clip casting to create replicable ceramic objects. By the end of the class students will bring home one plaster mold, a fired slip cast ceramic form, and the skills to continue making slip cast forms.
Students should have previous experience working with clay, but do not need any past experience with plaster to take this class. Students can bring in an object to make a mold of and the instructor will assess if it a suitable object.
Studio will provide all tools for mold making (Plaster, casting slip, cottle boards, sculpting tools, masks).
