Youth Series: Painting Like the Masters: Vincent Van Gogh “Starry Night”
Ages: 8-12Time: 10AM – 1:30PMDate: Feb. 17, 2024Location: Cain Center for the Arts, Classroom 115In this 3 ½ hour workshop children will learn about the painting technique used by Van Gogh that made “Starry Night” one of the most unique and famous works of art. Van Gogh painted 21 versions of “Starry Night”. Children will learn about the use of vibrant colors, brush strokes, and layering of paint and will recreate this masterpiece using acrylic paint on canvas board. No prior experience is necessary since children will work at their appropriate level of abilities. Workshop Structure: Introduction to Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” and discussion of his use of color and brush strokes: Video presentation (15 minutes) Pencil sketch on canvas.(30 minutes) Painting.
