Create a beautiful work of art for your home and learn how to paint the beautiful Earth we live on simultaneously. Christine will guide you on structuring your horizon line using the principle of thirds, definition of the sky using atmospheric perspective, and will then move on to the middle and foregrounds of the landscape painting to create depth and interest with a focus on the beauty of nature that surrounds us. The Art of Abstract Painting Age: 17+ Day: Tuesday Dates: Sept 8 – Oct 13 Time: 2:00PM – 4:00PM Location: Cain Center for the Arts – Main Campus Room: Classroom 115 Instructor: Kathy Murray   Description: Have you ever wished your paintings could be looser and more energetic? In this class we will explore different methods and techniques to create abstract paintings. How to look at something real like a still life or landscape and make it abstract by really changing the shapes, lines, colors and other things that you see. You can choose how much abstraction you want in your pieces. Use multiple layers to create richness and depth. Create using your choice of many types of media, different brush sizes, textures, patterns, acrylic paints, tools, stamps, stencils, collage papers, pencils, art crayons, etc. Some basic art “rules” will be discussed and discarded at your discretion. For example, color schemes, creating depth, design of value plans, passage of how your eye moves through a painting, having a focal point. Each class will begin with a short class demo and then the instructor will help each student with their individual pieces. Get ready to laugh for a cause that truly matters. Pharos Parenting invites you to Stand-Up for Good, a night of clean, crowd-pleasing comedy at the Cain Center for the Arts in Cornelius. Every ticket you buy helps protect children and strengthen families right here in North Mecklenburg.   Hosting the evening is the one and only Ramona Holloway, Charlotte’s beloved media personality and longtime co-host of the Matt and Ramona Show. With three decades in radio, TV, and event hosting under her belt, including three “Best Radio Personality” wins from Charlotte Magazine, Ramona brings warmth, wit, and more charm than a mic can handle.   Opening the show is E.J. Masicampo, a Wake Forest University psychology professor by day and rising stand-up star by night. The Winston-Salem-based comedian brings sharp, insightful humor about identity, fatherhood, and everyday life. In 2022, he was crowned North Carolina’s Funniest Person.   Headlining the night is Eric O’Shea, an award-winning comedian with over 30 years on the road and more than 30 million views on his Dry Bar Comedy special. Known for his high-energy, family-friendly style, Eric has appeared on America’s Got Talent, Comedy Central, and alongside some of the biggest names in comedy. His show is guaranteed laughs for everyone in the room.   All proceeds benefit Pharos Parenting and their child abuse prevention efforts in North Mecklenburg County.
